CHRACTERISTICS

Characteristics of XLPE Insulated Steel Wire Armored Control Cables

1. Basic Structure & Standard Model

Main model: KYJV32
Layer structure from inside out: Copper conductor → XLPE cross-linked polyethylene insulation → PVC inner sheath → Galvanized steel wire armor → PVC outer sheath
It integrates XLPE insulation’s high-temperature resistance and steel wire armor’s outstanding tensile & vertical load resistance, specially designed for overhead vertical laying, deep shaft and long-distance suspended wiring.

2. Core Advantages

(1) Premium thermal performance of XLPE insulation

  1. Long-term continuous operating temperature up to 90°C, short-circuit withstand temperature reaches 250°C, ampacity higher than PVC insulated cables of the same cross-section.
  2. Excellent thermal anti-aging performance, stable insulation without softening/melting in high-temperature power distribution rooms, boiler auxiliary equipment and densely arranged cable trenches, extending service life greatly.
  3. XLPE features ultra-low dielectric loss, stable insulation resistance under temperature fluctuation, guaranteeing accurate signal transmission for PLC, DCS and precision instruments.

(2) Unique tensile & vertical load resistance of steel wire armor

This is the biggest difference from steel tape armored cables (KYJV22):
  1. Twisted galvanized steel wires form a circular bearing layer, bearing huge vertical tensile force. Suitable for vertical shaft, high-rise building vertical cable wells, mine shaft and long-span overhead suspended laying.
  2. Effectively resist cable self-weight tension during vertical installation, prevent cable breakage and insulation damage caused by long-distance vertical hanging.
  3. Anti-twist performance is far better than steel tape armor, adapting to inclined shaft and winding laying conditions.

(3) Multi-environment adaptability of XLPE material

  1. Excellent UV & weather resistance: Can be laid exposed outdoors without rapid aging, pulverization or cracking.
  2. Superior low-temperature toughness: Remains flexible at -40°C without embrittlement, applicable to cold northern open-air and vertical shaft projects.
  3. Good moisture, dilute acid, alkali and mineral oil resistance, works stably in damp underground tunnels and light chemical workshops.
  4. Halogen-free raw material: WDZ-KYJV32 low-smoke zero-halogen version releases non-toxic, non-corrosive smoke when burning, compliant with subway, hospital and data center fire standards. Flame-retardant ZR-KYJV32 is available for general fire protection scenarios.

(4) Comprehensive mechanical protection

  1. Steel wire armor resists sharp impact, rock friction and external extrusion during underground tunnel or mine laying.
  2. Galvanized steel wire surface prevents rust and corrosion in damp, slightly saline environments.
  3. Outer PVC sheath provides secondary isolation from soil chemical corrosion.

(5) Stable electrical safety

XLPE insulation avoids the defect of PVC releasing toxic hydrogen chloride during combustion. Combined with optional copper tape/copper braided shielding (KYJVP32/KYJVP2-32), it can suppress high-frequency/low-frequency electromagnetic interference for precision control signal circuits.

3. Disadvantages

(1) Higher manufacturing cost

Steel wire processing and armoring procedures consume more metal materials than steel tape armor, so KYJV32 price is higher than KYJV22 of same specification, increasing overall project investment.

(2) Poor anti-horizontal extrusion performance

Steel wire armor is weak against concentrated horizontal heavy pressure (such as heavy vehicle rolling, large rock compacting). For direct buried road crossing, steel tape armored KYJV22 is more suitable.

(3) Larger cable outer diameter & heavier weight

Twisted steel wire layer increases cable overall diameter and unit weight, raising the load requirement of cable supports, brackets and vertical well fixing fixtures.

(4) Larger minimum bending radius

Steel wire armor has high rigidity, requiring a larger bending radius during construction; not fit for narrow cabinets with frequent sharp bending.

(5) Ordinary non-flame-retardant XLPE is flammable

Basic KYJV32 without flame retardant modification will sustain combustion under open fire; flame-retardant or low-smoke halogen-free types must be selected for public fire-critical areas.

4. Common Model Series Classification

  1. KYJV32: Basic XLPE insulated steel wire armored control cable, vertical laying in industrial shafts, overhead suspension.
  2. KYJVP32: Copper wire braided shield + steel wire armor, anti-electromagnetic interference for frequency conversion equipment, precision sensor vertical signal circuits.
  3. KYJVP2-32: Copper tape shield + steel wire armor, superior anti-high-frequency interference for DCS, inverter automation production lines.
  4. ZR-KYJV32 / ZR-KYJVP32: Flame-retardant series, vertical cable shafts of high-rise buildings, fire control vertical wiring.
  5. WDZ-KYJV32 / WDZ-KYJVP32: Low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant type, vertical laying in subways, hospitals, underground comprehensive pipe galleries.

5. Suitable & Unsuitable Application Scenarios

Suitable Scenarios

  1. Vertical cable shafts of high-rise commercial buildings, residential buildings and power plants
  2. Mine vertical shafts, inclined roadways, underground deep tunnel suspended laying
  3. Long-span overhead suspension wiring, river-crossing aerial cable projects
  4. Outdoor vertical ladder cable trays, cold northern vertical industrial equipment wiring
  5. Damp pipe galleries, light chemical plant vertical control circuits
  6. Vertical precision signal transmission requiring tensile resistance and anti-interference (shielded type)

Unsuitable Scenarios

  1. Direct burial under roads with heavy vehicle rolling (steel tape armored KYJV22 is preferred)
  2. Indoor narrow control cabinets requiring small bending radius and flexible wiring
  3. Low-budget ordinary horizontal cable tray laying without vertical tension load
  4. Severe heavy oil, strong acid corrosion environments (special anti-corrosion sheath cables required)
